Off-campus work permit program requirements

On April 27, 2006, the Honourable Monte Solberg, announced
the launch of the Off-Campus Work Permit Program effective
immediately.
This program allows eligible foreign student(s) at eligible
publicly-funded post-secondary institutions to work
off campus for up to 20 hours a week during the school year
and full-time during study breaks. The work permit is valid
for the duration of the study permit.
To qualify for this work permit, a foreign student(s)
must have a valid study permit and they must have studied
full-time at the post-secondary institution for at least six
months out of the twelve months preceding the date of the
application. The institution at which the foreign student
studied must have signed an agreement with the province in
which they are based in order to participate in the program.
The agreement includes monitoring and reporting provisions
to ensure that students retain their eligibility for the program.
Students enrolled in English or French as a second language
program or exchange students and students who have
received awards from the Canadian Commonwealth
Scholarship Program, Government of Canada Awards Program
or CIDA are not eligible to receive work permits under this
program.
